Engineering Learning Community
Since 2003, the School of Engineering has been proud to offer the Engineering Learning Community (ELC) program for freshmen engineering and computing students. The program helps freshmen build the study habits and peer support that can be vital to their success.
Students interested in the ELC can choose to be a part of the living community in either Templin or Oliver Hall. These two residence halls have designated floors in which groups of freshmen engineering students are placed together. Living among other engineering students is a great way to not only meet other students in your program but also to form those essential study groups for your first year courses. If you decide to live on one of the designated ELC floors, you will not go through the online room selection process beginning in March 2013. Instead, the School of Engineering staff will work with KU Student Housing to assign your room based upon your specified housing and roommate preferences. Please note that space on these floors is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In addition, students participating in the ELC will be encouraged to enroll in ENGR 101: Engineering Student Success, a weekly seminar offered during the Fall 2013 semester. The seminar introduces students to a variety of program activities and discussion topics related to academic success in engineering. Sample topics include: study skills, time management, career fair preparation, international program opportunities, academic advising, etc. View sample ENGR 101 schedule. More information about this course will be made available at New Student Orientation this summer.
